Columbia river homes owner, John Dalton, lied about set up and delivery date

As of Oct 2516 - I had to obtain, and get, a front end loader on a moments notice despite the truckers having looked at our driveway and approving that they could make it up the incline. Otherwise, it would be days/weeks waiting time. Of course this was at our cost. - wrong color shingles, Al Shaw was told the proper color and this is not what this unit came with. - outside taps in wrong location. We ordered this home in Cranbrook via Al Shaw with one set of taps on the front of the house and one set in the back. This house came with both at the front. - we ordered this manufactured home with a satellite conduit to go between the walls with an opening on top for cable. This was not done. - we ordered Decora switches and plugs at all outlets, but the home came with toggle switches, and these were mounted too tight, crooked and poorly attached - # 3 bedroom, which is now a boot room, had no switch by the outside door. We had to walk through a dark room to get to a switch to turn on the lights. ThIs unsafe. - there was a short in the power at the ceiling lights. This was found by the electrician as we wondered why the breaker kept tripping. The wire was taped and unsafe. - the heat vents were along the wall in the middle of the room requiring new Lino, flooring material and heating ducting be installed. - the Lino was off, meaning the Lino was not matched up from one side to the other. - the dining room light was not centered and had to be redone. - you ordered new Lino, not enough of it as you stated it can be matched. It couldn't and on top of that, the new Lino was damaged in transport and subsequently refused at our end as it was damaged too badly. Brenda went Cranbrook on 2 separate days to buy new Lino (and baseboards) - over 50 drywall cracks throughout - island was not matched, the top did not meet up the island wall - fridge opening was 36" when 31" was ordered. We compromised on a fridge surround to avoid new cabinets, counter tops etc be made although this is not what we wanted. - the range opening was out and had to be repaired. The counter top was crooked as well. - the counter tops are a different height, 36" and 36 1/2" which is noticeable. The 1/4 " in the kitchen cabinets is not noticeable and we do not expect this to be a major issue - furnace room door did not fit and had to be repaired - we ordered the furnace door vents at the bottom of the door, this did not and has not been repaired as the vents are top on one door and bottom on the other door - lights can be seen around the bathroom doors and the hinges are not hidden. - we were sent old tile with a brown grout for the bathrooms and kitchen when we ordered new tile with white grout. As this was not what we ordered. And was falling off the wall, the tile had to be replaced in both bathrooms, kitchen, behind the range and all counter tops - we ordered bathroom vanities at 34" height, but were sent different heights. The front bathroom had a 32" vanity and the master bathroom had a 36" vanity. You told us this was standard but it was not what we ordered. - the lights over the counter island and dining room were not centered and had to be changed. - the lights in the bathrooms had to be centered as they did not come that way, they were to,the sides - the thermostat was above the heat vent (the heat vent being in the center of the wall) and called for heat/cold/heat/cold etc. - the patio doors came with only 1 screw each. Your set up crew was told this over and over again, but chose to ignore this. - we were missing 2 door stops. The set up crew was advised of this but only got 1. We had had to get the other which required a trip to town which you were not charged for. - walls are still crooked and it appears will not be fixed as the set up crew left, stating they were done here. - cabinets have inferior material with cracks and are not affixed properly. Also, I asked you for a 3rd shelf for the cabinets as these only came with 2. You stated you had a 3rd shelf and would send these out. We are still waiting. - we ordered 14" cabinets and drawers but got 10" instead. - the electrical panel was labeled incorrectly, which could have been deadly had the electrican not caught it based on the report by BC Safety Authority who were quite correct in stating this home was not fit for occupancy. - the hot water tank leaked causing the plumbing (which was loose and never tightened) to spew water on the drywall. And the release valve did not go through the floor drain, but rather ended just above. Had this release valve let water go, it would have spewed all over the drywall requiring drywall repair and paint - we ordered a 17" toilet for front bathroom but were sent a 15". Plus, it was 3" away from the wall not 1" as is the usual case. Once the toilet was replaced with a 17" that was ordered, the gap shrunk to 1 1/2" something we will accept. - master bath toilet was up against a wall, making it unusable. The plumber changed it to the centre of the wall, requiring flooring to be cut and replaced. - you decided to use the set up crew to put in the sewer under the home, which is against code as a certified plumber is supposed to put the PVC piping in. You stated Figs was too busy to do this job but as he stated, you were too cheap to hire someone who would do it to code. I agreed to pay 1/2 of the set up crew's bill to cover their cost as you stated they had done this hundreds of times, but this home failed inspection by the RDCK as some fittings were not put together, some were glued on the top/bottom only telling me they had never done this before, plus, water does not run uphill, something the set up crew used for the master bath shower which was not sloped properly and the water had to run uphill - the range 220 v wiring was exposed, which could have shorted out causing a fire. The plug in behind the stove was a 30 amp dryer plug which also is against code. The electrical changed this out to a 50 amp range plug in. The 30 amp dryer plugin was also not to code needing changing. - finishing work, meaning sliconing tubs, fixtures etc was non-existent or done to such a bad degree, that it needed redoing. - the RDCK also failed this home as there was no insulation under the water lines by the hot water tank (underneight) which would have frozen in the winter causing major damage - the smoke detectors now keep going off, is this part of warranty? Resolution Once I told you we were finally moving into the home, 6 months after it was ordered and 2 months after it was delivered, the first thing you claim was that you were owed money. Then you changed the amount you claim owed to you by adding rather than subtracting this amount. With the contract not being fulfilled, the amount of time this entire process has, your unwillingness to provide a lawyers name, your unwillingness to pay what you promised to pay, sign this home over us and we will not pursue the $20,751.86 you owe us. In all fairness, this amount increases by $250.00 per day. This is on condition that Figs completes what he promised to do at your cost.

We have had ours installed over a year ago and are still not in it because of the problems and John Dalton and his father will not return our calls or emails about fixing this nightmare

Same thing here, and totally agree with Kim Yuswak. If they had their show homes set up the way they set up a customer's home, they would have not sold us or probably anyone else this junk.

We bought and paid for ($175,000 cash) our home in April 2016, delivered August 10/16, moving in Oct 15.16. Failed inspection 2x. 30 amp dryer receptacle put in kitchen which needs a 50 amp receptacle, had electrician change it, 220 v copper wire showing, home not in our name as John Dalton refuses to put the title in our name. DO NOT BUY FROM COLUMBIA RIVER HOMES OR KODIAK HOMES, DO NOT BUY A PALM HARBOUR HOME as they all lie to you. John Dalton will promise the world to get a sale, then after sales service is nil. He will not fix the items he promised. We are not the only customers as others have contacterd us.

Should never have Purchase a home from Columbia river homes.

My wife and I purchased a home from Columbia river homes. We had it delivered in late June 2013. That was the beginning of the worst decision of our life. The set up crew was very unprofessional and rude. It was supposed to take two weeks to set up the modular home but it took over nine weeks before the roof was complete. Our home is still not finished to completion. The quality of finish is terrible and quality of workmanship of the set up service crew is the worst I've ever seen. There are numerous details still not dealt with and the owner or manager is not returning calls and I am completely unsatisfied with their product and their service.

Poor quality modular home set up, no warranty follow through

We bought a modular home through Columbia river homes in British Columbia. The home was manufactured by palm harbour homes. The laundry list of problems that we had throughout the process is longer than your arm! The major problems started with the setup of the house. After the two halves of the house were placed onto the foundation it started to rain. The setup crew decided to use the shipping tarps, which were full if holes, to cover the roof of the house. This proved to be totally ineffective, as was evident the next day when we walked into the house and water was pouring in to the living room. To fix this problem the finishing crew cut out a section of the ceiling in the living room to remove the wet drywall and attic insulation. The space in the attic was then stuffed with batt insulation and the new drywall was put up. The patch in the ceiling was obviously visible and when I removed the baseboard to do some painting there was mild growing on the wall. Half of the drywall on one of the walls had to be removed so that the mild could be killed and cleaned. Every seam that was done by the finishing crew has since cracked, as well as all of the cracks that were "repaired" at the time of setup. We have had 3 different finishing crews in our house to "repair" cracks in the walls and ceilings, grout around the tiles, etc. The last crew that was in left a layer of drywall dust covering everything in our house, as we had moved in and been living in the house for 8 months by the time they arrived. The crews have left all of their garbage at our house, leaving us the hassle and expense of cleaning it up and taking it to the dump. The unprofessional actions of these "professional" finishing crews was appalling. The first finishing crew showed up hungover nearly every day, when they actually did show up, and were witnessed drinking on the job site. This crew disappeared after completing only a portion of the work, as did the second crew as well. The dealer rep for Columbia river homes was near impossible to get a hold of during this time, and was very unpleasant to deal with when we actually did get in touch with him. After the third finishing crew had come through and "fixed" maybe 80% of the problems, and caused a few more new ones, the dealer rep informed us that he was finished doing any work at our house and was not going to send another crew. He didn't care that his people left a huge mess, used the wrong colour of paint for touch ups, and didn't fix all of the problems. So now we are left with a new house, 1 year old, that has cracks all over the walls, cracks that run the entire width of the house on the ceiling, doors that leak, kitchen cabinets that had the finish sanded off, grout crumbling around the tiles, etc. If I could go back in time and do this again, I would spend the extra 30 grand or so and either stick build or buy a more superior product like what is offered by Moduline. But of course that isn't possible, so now we are stuck with this house that doesn't look or feel like it is a new house. Columbia River Homes of Castlegar BC has made me into a very pissed consumer, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

We also bought from CRH in 2012 and it was a fiasco all the way through. I filed a complaint to theBBBand CRH never even responded to the BBB.

(Who has since given CRH a designation of "F". I have lost count of the number of people who have been shafted by CRH. I think the word may be out in about them in the Kootenays but obviously not further. I urge you to record your complaint with the BBB.

I cannot fathom how the building industry/banks still let them operate. For others -Run the other way re:CRH.

(The product seems ok- just find another dealer). I'm doing my best to ensure that CRH gets the comparable (negative)advertising $ value ($10,000+) that they s*^%# us over for.
